HOWARD CHEN
I am a professional Web and Graphic Designer, Front-end Developer and amateur Videographer.
Throughout my university degree and early career, I’ve been exploring various fields and attempting many career directions. Now I have skills that can be categorised into four main section: UX design, Development Programming, Graphic Design and Videography.
My study focus back in university was IT major in software design which exposed me to both the development side of the software as well as the design aspect of the software. After a good amount of university group projects, working as a UI/UX Specialist during my last year of studying (still going), I have really shown my strong ability in UX design, graphic design as well as Front-end development. In the meantime, I have been doing videography work in my spare time and my skill of video filming and editing has grown so much over the last 3 years of amateur experience.
USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN
This is what fascinates me most as to how to make something or anything and people are going to enjoy it. To me, user experience design is not just for software or web development, it is for every aspect of life. When programming, how can the code be delivered so that coworker would appreciate it more or less technical-debt; when editing a video, how to write the story and choose the music so that people are going to enjoy it more.

Over the years of studying and working, I have used a good number of tools for user experience design prototypes such as Proto.io, Figma, InVision. But the most experienced tools for me is Adobe XD and Sketch.
DEVELOPMENT
After completing a university degree that involves software, I have learnt and practiced various programming languages as well as understanding the algorithm and data structure behind many applications. Now with a year of industrial working experience, I am now very experienced in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery) and TypeScript (Angular). Also, I understand working in ASP .NET framework and using c# for api writing and testing.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
One of my favourite thing about my university degree and my career path is the intense connection with graphic design. It is pretty difficult to get into UX Design without a solid graphic design skill as foundation. To improve my graphic design ability, over the past couple of years I have been actively learning all Adobe Suite applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. My personal favourite is Adobe Illustrator, it really opens up the possibility of digital design and I have been working with Adobe Illustrator the most.
VIDEOGRAPHY
I started doing video editing about 3 years ago and it really started very small and was just putting basic videos together from every trips that I went on. But over the years it got more and more serious and now I am able to produce stunning content for communities around me and to help promote small businesses.

With video filming and editing, I learnt the importance of story writing, choosing a theme and stick to the style, finding the right music in the mood and colour correction and colour grading. My passion is to use video to present people a story or a product quick and effective.
